Hobby Homebrewers Make Good Beer
There are a number of hobbies that actually contribute positively to our survival as a species. It could be argued that making beer is one of these hobbies. Beer began a collective elixir that caused societies to spring up in ancient times. One of the primary influences that led to the formation of societies was the need to produce reliable fermentables to make intoxicating beverages. The lubrication that alcohol provided to groups of people fostered a willingness to work together in the pursuit of a mutually shared goal. When the carrot dangling on the stick was an adult beverage, the incentive became increasingly valuable.
Modern hobbyists are likely to lace up a pair of rocket dog boots and head to their brewing area to produce some product. Brewing is not a difficult undertaking. A home kitchen provides a suitable environment for engaging in the hobby. Sure, there are upgrades to the brewing apparatus, and coveted brewing systems that offer greater depth of hobby exploration, but the bare bones are all that is required to make good beer. Beer is made by holding converted grains at a precise temperature for an extended period of time. The science that occurs during this stage succeeds in converting grain starch into fermentable sugars. The process is achieved due to the presence of particular enzymes that aid in the conversion. Once the sugars are obtained, the remaining steps in the beer making process resemble making soup. The bottom line is that a half-witted individual with nothing more than a stove and a pot can make good beer.
